translated from Spanish: AMLO will give Cry of Independence without people in the Zócalo

President Andrés Manuel López Obrador said that the Cry of Independence, on September 15 in the Zócalo, cannot be an “open demonstration,” so most Mexicans will be able to follow it from home.
At a press conference, he said that the protocol of the event is still being analyzed, although he indicated that there will be a small group of guests.
“That Cry represents a lot, we are seeing how it is going to be commemorated, how we are going to celebrate it that day, I assure you that, in your homes, most Mexicans will be able to participate, they will be able to notice everything that is going to be done, the program, everything complete,” he said.

When asked if it will be with people in the Zócalo and about guests at the event, he said:
“It’s what we’re seeing, not being able to make an open demonstration. We’re looking at who might be.
“Yes, but very small, it is a civic commemoration, in Mexico the night of the Grito is one of the most important festivities, I would say that it is the most important civic festivity, because Christmas is the religious festivity that is most celebrated in the family, but in the civic it is the night of the 15th, that there is a meeting in the families and everyone puts their little flags and the Grito is given,” he said.

López Obrador commented that the replica of a pyramid for the 500 years of the taking of Tenochtitlán was left on the plate of the Zócalo, and will be complemented by the 200 years of the Independence of Mexico, to honor the priest Hidalgo, Morelos, Allende, Josefa Ortiz de Domínguez and Leona Vicario.
This would be President Andrés Manuel López Obrador’s second Cry of Independence without people due to the COVID-19 pandemic.
Later, President Andrés Manuel López Obrador led the ceremony for the 174th anniversary of the Heroic Gesta of the child heroes of Chapultepec.
During the event, the president passed the honor list of the child heroes and gave swords to outstanding cadets of the Military College.
