Salta: He was arrested at a police checkpoint and his weapons were seized

The driver of a van was arrested at a checkpoint in the National Gendarmerie (GNA) in the province of Salta, accused of transporting an arsenal that included a rifle and at least five other firearms, sources of that federal security force reported today. Troops of Squadron 52 of Tartagal asked the driver of a van carrying a motorcycle in the box to stop the march. At that time, the gendarmes observed that in the back seat of the vehicle there was a burlap bag and two backpacks. Upon inspection, the officers found several pistols and magazines inside. As indicated by GNA, the man had in his possession two Uzi Submachine Gun pistols and their magazines with 9-millimeter caliber ammunition; a 5.56 mm caliber rifle, with two magazines and 68 rounds of ammunition and a .38 caliber Taurus revolver, with 18 rounds of ammunition.

They also found a Colt 44/40 caliber revolver, with 17 rounds of ammunition; a Beretta pistol, with 25 9mm caliber ammunition, a silencer and two bags with 78 ammunition of different calibers. The Federal Prosecutor’s Office of Tartagal ordered the confiscation of the weapons, leaving the person involved at liberty subject to the case for alleged violation of Law 20,429 on armaments and explosives.
