Sammis Reyes, who plays as a tight end, today became the first Chilean to play for the National Football League (NFL), when he served minutes on the field with the Washington Football Team against the New Orleans Saints, wearing the 80 jersey.

Tight end Sammis Reyes was placed on the list of those available and finally entered the field by the Washington team this Sunday against the New Orleans Saints, so he became the first Chilean to play an official game of the National Football League (NFL). Reyes left as a basketball player in his early years and moved to the United States as a teenager, but surprisingly only started playing soccer earlier this year. He went through the NFL’s International Player Trajectory Program and landed a three-year contract with Washington, his “dream team” because his girlfriend and family live in the area. Reyes, 25, was inactive for the first four games of the season and had this opportunity after Logan Thomas was placed on the injured reserve list with a hamstring ailment. Washington’s head coach, Puerto Rican Ron Rivera, has repeatedly called Reyes a big part of the team’s future within the offense.
