During the inauguration, details of the programming, tributes and films that compete in its four categories of Official Selection were announced.
At the beginning of the contest, a posthumous tribute was paid to the national artist, Patricio Manns, recently deceased.
The activity included the intervention of the regional governor of Los Ríos, Luis Cuvertino, the mayor of Valdivia, Carla Amtmann Fecci, the rector of the Austral University of Chile, Hans Richter, the president of the Board of Directors of the Center for Film Promotion of Valdivia, Antonio Ruiz – Tagle; and the director of FICValdivia, Raúl Camargo Bórquez.
The opening ceremony
The first authority to take the stage was the regional governor of Los Ríos, Luis Cuvertino, who said that “as an institution we reinforce our commitment to FICValdivia, for the development and opportunities it generates not only for cinema, but also for the creative industries. Our thanks to those behind making this possible. From the Regional Government we transmit the certainty that we will permanently be supporting this contest”.
For her part, the newly elected mayor of Valdivia, Carla Amtmann Fecci, said that “this festival represents something I love very much, which is part of my history, which is why I am very summoned by the strength and drive of the team that makes this festival possible. This motivates us as a municipality to give them all the support so that it continues to exist and grow”.
“The FICValdivia opens spaces for the creative ecosystem of the region to open up and grow, forming new possible scenarios for artistic creation. It offers a real experience that affects and contributes to the regional development of the creative industries, which gives us one of the most beautiful and important challenges that is the formation of audiences, “said the president of the board of directors of the Center for Film Promotion of Valdivia, Antonio Ruiz-Tagle.
“2020 was a year of great uncertainty for everyone, but in which we managed to reinvent ourselves and managed to reach audiences that, had it not been for last year’s experience, we would not have reached. The next step was to meet again in a public way, without leaving aside that new audience that accompanies us from virtuality, and we are achieving it. So I can only recognize, applaud and congratulate the entire festival team for making this possible, for that irrepressible desire to be here again, “said the director of FICValdivia, Raúl Camargo Bórquez.
