The Political Week and the tensions in Apruebo Dignidad due to the PC-FA programmatic differences in the Boric government plan

In a new edition of La Semana Política de El Mostrador, together with political analyst Andrés Cabrera, topics such as the election of the coordinators of the thematic commissions of the Constitutional Convention, the commemoration of the second anniversary of the social outbreak, and the tensions within the Apruebo Dignidad (PC-FA) alliance due to the programmatic differences in the government plan of candidate Gabriel Boric were addressed.
As for the election of the coordinators of the thematic commissions in the Convention, the Frente Amplio drew cheerful accounts, by ultimately obtaining 5 positions in the coordination (as was endorsed this afternoon, after the recording of this program, with the vote of the last two commissions).
However, in the Political System Commission, those elected were a conventional reserved seat (Rosa Catrileo) along with Ricardo Montero of the Socialist Collective, and here an important point occurred, said the journalist of El Mostrador Nicole Martínez, since the Broad Front tried to install itself in this instance “which is very important at the level of the substantive discussion that is going to take place, where they intended to install Fernando Atria, however that did not turn out.” #También the votes that the constituents of the Communist Party had were key, in this case Marcos Barraza and Bárbara Sepúlveda who chose this time to coin a candidacy of the social movements that was Alondra Carrillo,” he added.
For Cabrera, beyond the quantitative analysis, “there is a tonic quite similar to what we had observed in these first three months of installation, where the Broad Front, after settling in a structural axis and we could consider hegemonic, has the ability to lead on the one hand, but on the other generate processes of articulation with other political forces from the most moderate sectors of the right, even the most radicalized sectors of the left.”
Finally, he stressed that “it is interesting to see that the alliances of articulations of the Broad Front started not with the Communist Party that is its ally especially in Apruebo Dignidad, but with the social movements, with the Socialist Collective, because it also speaks of a capacity for flexibility to, in certain circumstances, assume positions of power, generating links with different political actors, and that is the most relevant thing within this first constitution of the different commissions and the different positions that have been distributed”.
On this relationship of the FA and the PC, Nicole Martínez said that there are also certain tensions at the level of the presidential race over the issue of the government program. “There is an intention of the Communist Party to incorporate certain issues, because although the programs are very similar, they have certain nuances in some points. What the Communist Party wants is to install these visions within the government program of Gabriel Boric. What he has said is that he is the candidate and that the government program is being built with people’s opinions,” he explained.
“What they say publicly is that this tension does not exist, but there is an internal tension in the presidential issue with the programmatic issue. I don’t know if that’s going to influence how the presidential campaign is going to look. So far the PC has had a more secondary role within the public that the campaign is presented. So far they are trying not to publicly transfer certain tensions that have existed and that are natural,” he added.
In this scenario, political analyst Andrés Cabrera offered his vision, noting that “I do not think that Apruebo Dignidad will have too many problems between now and the next elections, also understanding that they maintain an expectant position to win this first round and eventually the second round. Both political actors understand the situation that they are eventually on the verge of winning the government in March 2022.”
For Cabrera, there is also an area of discussion that does not go through the programmatic, and that has to do with “how emotional the discussion can be, especially when we already begin to enter right ground. We are practically a month before the first round, and the issues that are marking the political agenda have to do with what October 18 meant.”
He also considered that “one of the hot topics was migration, and now it is the issue of violence and public order. They are issues that the right likes to position and that will be able toIt would be taken advantage of by José Antonio Kast, and I would add an element that is also important, such as the application of the state of emergency in the southern macrozone, which is also an element that is not addressed so much, but it is a trend that is already being installed. There are the coordinates of the debate.”
