FACh closed administrative investigation without determining causes or responsible for the accident of the Hercules C-130

Almost two years after the crash of the Hécules C-130 plane that left 38 dead after being declared missing in the Drake Sea, the Chilean Air Force closed the administrative investigation without being able to determine causes or possible responsibilities. This investigation was aimed at “determining the causes, nature, circumstances and possible responsibilities, if any, in the disappearance of the aircraft,” the FAch explained through a statement. In the same document they point out that “having made all the human, material, scientific and technological efforts in this investigation, it was not possible to establish the cause of the accident, due to the small amount of elements rescued from the sea and that were part of the aircraft.” At the same time, as a result of the investigation carried out, it could not be determined that the accident was caused by a flight crew or support operation, by airworthiness conditions of the aircraft, by the cargo being moved or by meteorological conditions, “they added. Along these lines, they also stated that “on the other hand, administrative facts were detected that do not say relation to the accident, which were brought to the attention of the corresponding authority, having arranged the pertinent investigations in the respective units.” In this way, the FACh expressed its commitment to collaboration with justice and “will continue to provide support to the families of those who lost their lives” in the tragedy. It is worth mentioning that the information was released to the families of the victims and to the Public Prosecutor’s Office.
