Hurricane ‘Rick’ approaches Guerrero as a Category 1

The center of Hurricane “Rick” category 1 is located on Sunday morning 180 kilometers south of Zihuatanejo, with a trajectory towards the limits of Michoacán and Guerrero.
According to the National Water Commission, “Rick” moves north at 9 kilometers per hour, with sustained winds of 140 km / h, and tachas of up to 165 km / h.
Through a statement, authorities indicated that there will be extraordinary punctual rains that could generate landslides and floods in areas of Michoacán and Guerrero, as well as punctual rains in Jalisco, Colima and Oaxaca. They will also be presented in the State of Mexico and Morelos.

Rain and wind gusts could generate an increase in the levels of rivers and streams, in addition to wind with gusts of 100 to 120 km / h and waves of 5 to 7 meters of significant height on the coast of Michoacán and Guerrero, and 1 to 3 meters high on the coasts of Jalisco, Colima and Oaxaca.

Therefore, they recommended that the population take extreme precautions in the areas of the aforementioned states and heed the recommendations issued by the authorities of the National Civil Protection System in each entity.
The state of Guerrero reported that it has 570 temporary shelters, with the capacity to house almost 127,000 people, ready to be enabled if necessary.
He also recommended that the population prepare an emergency backpack that includes a radio and flashlight with batteries, a telephone directory, canned food and sufficient water, first aid kit and important documents.
