Municipality of Santiago requests to redefine projected route for Line 7 of the Metro

The Municipality of Santiago, after holding meetings with neighborhood organizations, presented a complaint to the Environmental Assessment Service (SEA), where it requests to redefine the projected route of line 7, which will link Renca with Vitacura and which has an important section in the commune directed by Mayor Irací Hassler (PC).
This responds to a unanimous request of the City Council, both current and the previous administration, and aims to protect the Forest Park and the communities that live in that environment, says the building house in a statement.
“We have held several meetings with the communities and neighborhood councils of the Fine Arts and Forest Park sector, because we believe it is important to listen to their voice and reconsider the planned route for this new Metro line,” said Mayor Hassler.
The authority maintained that it cannot “continue to affect the quality of life of people, so the call is to take into account the considerations established in this claim and find a solution in the short term that contains the vision of all parties involved.”
From the Legal Directorate of the Municipality of Santiago they lead this administrative process against the Environmental Qualification Resolution (RCA) No. 541 dated July 26, 2021, which favorably qualified the project.
“We provide all the legal support for the neighbors and the community to exercise the administrative and judicial actions that allow to protect the areas, parks, flora and fauna officially protected by the State of Chile. We believe that this is possible if the route of Line 7 of the Metro is modified,” said the legal director of the municipality, Jean Pierre Chiffelle.
“Given the historical heritage character of the neighborhood, the construction of the new Metro would affect both the flora and fauna, as well as groundwater and archaeological elements, which were not duly qualified by the Metropolitan Regional Directorate of the Environmental Assessment Service, thus contravening the rules of Law No. 19,300,” they add from the municipality.
This action is intended to nullifie the Environmental Qualification carried out by Resolution No. 541/2021, so that the project in question only receives a favorable environmental rating once it complies with current environmental regulations.
