AMLO offers protection to Aburto if he has another version of Colosio’s murder

President Andrés Manuel López Obrador offered Mario Aburto the protection of the state, if he has a different version of the assassination of Luis Donaldo Colosio.
He added that if he can prove that he was tortured, that he is threatened and that is why he has remained silent, guarantees will be provided for him and his entire family.
After the CNDH issued a recommendation for torture against Mario Aburto, the president said he is interested in no doubt or suspicion about the regrettable murder of the presidential candidate.

“If Mr. Aburto’s family and himself have something to say about his process that means another version of the facts, and if he can express, prove that he was tortured, that he is threatened and that is why he has remained silent, if there is another version, the Mexican State would protect him because we are very interested in no doubt, Suspicious about that unfortunate murder, it was a vileness what they did to him.
“It would be an act of justice and therefore it is a matter of state. If he were willing to tell his version, guarantees would be given to him and his family, if he has something to contribute,” he said in a morning conference.

López Obrador said that if things happened as they are in the trial, “the only thing we are obliged to do is that his human rights are not violated and that is a commitment.”
He added that he will ask Alejandro Encinas, undersecretary of Human Rights of the Ministry of the Interior, to meet with relatives of Aburto.
Meanwhile, the Secretary of Security, Rosa Icela Rodríguez, said that Aburto is not incommunicado, that he is in good health and that he has even continued to study law.
He pointed out that they are reviewing with the lawyers of Pierce, of the administrative body, and the legal of the secretariat the response to the recommendation made by the National Human Rights Commission (CNDH).
He indicated that there has even been supervision and surveillance of the Commission to know the state of health of Mario Aburto.
The National Human Rights Commission (CNDH) acknowledged in a recommendation the torture suffered by Mario Aburto, assassin of presidential candidate Luis Donaldo Colosio in Tijuana in 1994.
In Recommendation 48VG/2021, which is addressed to the Attorney General of the Republic (FGR), Alejandro Gertz Manero, and the Commissioner of the Decentralized Administrative Body for Prevention and Social Readaptation (OADPRS), José Ángel Ávila Pérez, the institution states that Aburto suffered serious violations of human rights, personal integrity and dignified treatment, due to acts of torture and incommunicado detention, as well as due process.
