Deputy Calisto supports Conadecus lawsuit against gas marketing companies and points to “passivity” of the Government to regulate

As “a fair demand” described the deputy Miguel Ángel Calisto (DC), president of the Investigative Commission for possible collusion of liquefied gas companies, the legal action for “massive systematic abuses” filed by the National Corporation of Consumers and Users (Conadecus), against the companies that market this element, reiterating the call to the Government to present a new regulatory framework for this market.
According to Deputy Calisto, “it seems to me an absolutely fair demand, because it echoes all the annoyance that exists on the part of the citizens before the abuses of these companies that without any shame have increased the prices of gas balloons during the pandemic, also increasing their profits.”
Calisto added that “in Aysén we have localities where the price of a ball of 15 kilos is around 35 thousand pesos. This is clearly an abuse. This is a noticeable increase in the value of this element, all in the context of a pandemic that has strongly affected the pockets of Chilean families.”
Calisto added that “more than a month ago the Government indicated that it would present a new regulatory framework for this gas market, but to this day there is nothing clear, it seems that there is no rush to end the abuse of these companies. The call is clear, the executive must have this as a priority and take action on the matter, stop being a spectator.”
Finally, the legislator indicated that “we are in times when citizens make themselves heard, so I hope that this demand comes to fruition. The National Economic Prosecutor’s Office said very clearly that it is a market where competition does not work correctly and a commodity of first necessity and irreplaceable. ”
