Piñera after REJECTION of AC against him: “It is already part of the past”

“We must work to overcome the serious deterioration that is affecting the quality of our politics,” President Sebastián Piñera said from La Moneda, replying that “we must eradicate populism, demagoguery.” The president made a press point after the constitutional accusation against him was rejected, where he assured that “the empire of truth must be strengthened and mere electoral interests eradicated.” Asked about the result of the libel in the Senate, Piñera insisted that “it is already part of the past,” replying that “it never had any foundation.” With regard to the judicial process opened against him, he indicated that “in Chile we have a rule of law,” adding that in “previous accusations for the same or very similar facts, they were already known and dismissed by the judge of guarantee, the Court of Appeals and the Supreme Court unanimously, because my total innocence was demonstrated.” He also closed by assuring that he will continue his work. “As President I have less than four months left in my mandate and without ignoring the mistakes I have made, I want to commit myself to you that I will continue to work as I have done since day one, with all my will and energy to improve the quality of life of all Chilean families.”
