Mavys Álvarez accuses Maradona: “He raped me”

Mavys Álvarez Rego is Cuban and claims that she had an abusive relationship with Diego Maradona when he was a minor, he was 15 years old. He is now 37 and is in Argentina to testify before the justice of the trans-Andean country in the case that was initiated as a result of his complaint of human trafficking against the environment of the late former footballer. This is the first time I’ve come to Argentina after 2001, when I came with Diego. Now I was able to go a little, at that time I had not been able to see anything. She was kidnapped,” Mavys said in an interview with the trans-Andean media Infobae. In the middle of this televised interview, the interviewer asks her: “What was the moment when you had the worst time with Maradona.” She is moved and tears begins the story. “He insisted that he would very much like me to have breast surgery, that please, that I was going to look better, that they were going to have the care I needed, that everything was going to be fine, that the doctor was going to talk to me and that I was not afraid. In the end I agreed because I had already taken the date of the surgery and I had no other choice. I went to the clinic with Dr. (Alfredo) Cahe. They talked among doctors. Then they take me to the living room and the doctor explains that because of the size of my breasts and my skin they could not put me the size that Diego really wanted. He wanted them to put something bigger on me. The doctor suggested that they put a smaller size because there was no ability on my skin to put a larger one,” she said. His description continued”: “My mom came to see me at the house where we were in Havana and (Diego Maradona) didn’t want to open the door for her. My mom knocked on the door of the room and he didn’t want to open. He covered my mouth so I wouldn’t scream, so I wouldn’t say anything and abused me. He abused me. He raped me, that’s what happened.” And in addition, she added that the former footballer would also have physically abused her. “Many times. One day Claudia called. I don’t really know if it was Claudia but she said, ‘I’m Claudia, pass me on to Diego.’ He was asleep. I pass her cell phone and tell her it’s Claudia, she’s calling you. He says: ‘What do you have to do that you have to answer my phone, my cell phone!’ And he grabs the cell phone and throws it against the wall. He starts insulting me, grabs me, throws me against the bed, slaps me and says, ‘Never in your life will you touch my cell phone again! Never!’ Threatening me that he could kill me. Well, conclusion, it was violent on many occasions.’ And according to his account, there were other episodes of violence. “Once he dragged me down the stairs of the house to the room because we were in a nightclub and – unintentionally – I hit him on the nose with my back. Dancing I give him a blow without intention. And he got very violent. He pushed me out of the nightclub, got me in the car, took me to the house, dragged me up the stairs by the hair. It was tough,” he added. I was crying and of course I was screaming. There were the rest of the people but they didn’t do anything. They listened to me – because logically they must have listened to me – and they didn’t do anything,” he added. Specifically, Mavys accuses Diego Armando Maradona, who being dead is not a matter of investigation, and the environment he had: Omar Suárez, former owner of the Cocodrilo bowling alley, Guillermo Coppola, Diego’s former manager; Mariano Israelís, friend of the star; Gabriel Buono, former secretary of the “Ten”; and Carlos Ferro Viera.
