In an interview with Milenio, Ricardo de la Cruz Musalem, deputy secretary general of Edomex, explained that the bus was carrying a group of pilgrims from the municipality of Sahuayo Michoacán, who were going to the Sanctuary of Chalma.

The official stressed that the accident occurred on a secondary road with a significant slope, a community road that is not normally designed for cargo or passenger vehicles, “so it could have been one of the causes.”
In the place are emergency bodies of the Red Cross, Civil Protection and the Emergency Service of the State of Mexico.
The injured were transferred to hospitals in Malinalco, Toluca, Tenango del Valle, among others, with the support of Civil Protection from different municipalities, SUEM and the Red Cross.
Meanwhile, the Air Rescue Unit “Relámpagos” transferred six people, four adults and two minors, to the Adolfo López Mateos Medical Center, in the city of Toluca.
The bodies of the deceased will be transferred to the facilities of the General Coordination of Expert Services in Tenancingo, where all the legal procedures will be carried out for their identification and subsequently be delivered to their families.
Governor Alfredo del Mazo said that the heads of Civil Protection, Safety and Health have been instructed to support the affected people at all times.
