Malena Sánchez: “I would like the testimony of Thelma, the conviction to be an example for Justice”

Malena Sánchez was present this Tuesday, November 30, in front of the Specialized Fiscal Unit on Violence against Women (UFEM), where from Argentine Actresses they joined to accompany, as well as in 2018 for the first time, Thelma Fardín on this day that begins the oral trial against Juan Darthés.La journalist Micaela Robles of Filo.News went to the headquarters, where the call was made, and he spoke with the actress, who considered “historic” this hearing, which involves three countries: Nicaragua (where the crime occurred), Brazil (where the accused is, having escaped to avoid his responsibility) and Argentina (where the actress is from).

Going back to 2018, when she first heard her colleague tell everything she had experienced, Malena pointed out how “the issue was put on the table and waves and waves of situations of abuse of women began to fall who were encouraged to speak up with Thelma as an example.”
“Thelma has been a case in the millions. I am very proud of her, of her strength to generate something much bigger than her particular case,” Malena Sánchez.

“I think that was historic and today what makes it historic is that idea that Justice is never up to the amount of violence against women that there is, so it is an example that Justice had no option that there is no option for there to be a trial and that Darthés has to testify. I would like the testimony of Thelma, the conviction to be an example for Justice,” he said. Thelma has been a case in the millions. I am very proud of her, of her strength, her oratory, her sensitivity, for how she was encouraged to expose in the way she was exposed to generate something much bigger than her particular case,” she added.

Video: Filo.NewsFor the actress it is also a paradigmatic day for the collective action that was generated among the companions. “It’s historic because women are achieving a lot of things together, as well as the abortion law and having three countries involved. Let’s go for more,” he closed. Malena was present with the collective Actrices Argentinas, which as well as in 2018 met to support Thelma, now with the slogan “Action against abuse”. The trial will take place privately and virtually. Accompanying Thelma in her statement are officials from the Ministry of Women, Gender and Diversity (MMGyD). Even key witnesses will be actresses Anita Co and Calu Rivero, the first to denounce Darthés.

Before this instance, three public prosecutors from the three different countries considered that there was more than enough evidence to charge him criminally. From San Pablo, Darthés will finally face his charges on the allegation of sexual abuse dating back to 2009, when both he (then 45 years old) and Thelma (a minor of 16) participated in the tour for the daily strip “Patito Feo”, hosted with the cast in a hotel in the city of Managua, Thelma Fardín filed the complaint in court at the end of 2018, and publicly made it known through a conference organized by Argentine Actresses on December 11. Since that time – and according to figures reported by the human rights organization, Amnesty International Argentina – calls to the hotlines for victims of gender violence increased by 1240% in just 24 hours and added to the register of thousands of cases of sexual abuse per year, of which 65% are minors.
