The singer Joan Manuel Serrat, 77, will say goodbye in 2022 to the stage, with a last concert tour that will begin on April 27 at the Beacon Theatre in New York City and end on December 23 at the Palau Sant Jordi in Barcelona. after the pandemic and after a “forced inactivity”, the Catalan will return to live music with a last tour that will be called ‘The vice of singing 1965-2022’, with which Serrat wants to say goodbye “personally to the public with whom he has shared life and songs for more than half a century”. Serrat was born in Barcelona in 1943. Singer-songwriter, composer and poet, he is one of the most outstanding figures of modern song in both Spanish and Catalan. His works include titles such as ‘Cançons tradicionals’, ‘La paloma’, ‘Per al meu amic’, ‘Retratos’, ‘Canciones de amor’, ‘La mujer que yo quiero’, ‘Cada loco con su tema’, ‘Sinceramente teu’, ‘Poema de amor’, ‘Utopía’, ‘Nadie es perfecto’, ‘El gusto es nuestro’ (with Ana Belén, Miguel Ríos and Víctor Manuel) or ‘Dos pájaros de un tiro’ (with Joaquín Sabina) and songs such as ‘Mediterráneo’, ‘Penelope’, ‘Lucia’, ‘Blessed’ or ‘Words of Love’, among many others. Pioneer of what was called ‘Nova Cançó’ Catalan, in 1968 he was chosen to represent Spain in Eurovision with the song ‘La, la, la’, composed by Manuel de la Calva and Ramón Arcusa (of the Dynamic Duo). Serrat wanted to sing it in Catalan and it was finally Massiel who performed it in Spanish and who won the song festival.
