December’s free games on consoles and PC

A new month has begun and the offer of free games on PlayStation, Xbox and PC is renewed with great titles and others that are not only so much. Microsoft and Sony announced the selection of games for subscribers to their PlayStation Plus and Xbox Live Gold services, while Epic Games made this week’s games available to users. PlayStation Plus subscribers will be able to download these titles starting December 7: Godfall: Challenger Edition is a version of the PlayStation 5 launch game that only includes three cooperative multiplayer modes but not the single-player story campaign. Up to three friends will be able to face the challenge in Lightbringer, a battle against hordes of enemies; Dreamstones, a series of randomly generated challenges; and Ascended Tower of Trials, the ascent in a tower with increasing difficulty. Godfall: Challenger Edition will be available in native versions for PlayStation 4 and PlayStation 5 with cross-play support.

Mortal Shell, like so many other projects over the past decade, uses From Software’s award-winning Souls series as its foundation. The Cold Symmetry studio proposes a role-playing and action game with adjusted difficulty and a combat system with precise controls set in a dark fantasy world. The particularity is that we will control a spirit that will be able to reanimate the bodies of fallen warriors, each with its own characteristics. The game will be available on PlayStation 4 but is compatible with PlayStation 5 through backward compatibility.

LEGO DC Super Villains is a new game in the popular saga that does not stray too far from the formula, but has the novelty of allowing the player to create their own protagonist to add it to the rest of the DC villains. It is an ideal game for the youngest of the house. DC Super VIllains will be playable on PlayStation 4 and PlayStation 5 through backward compatibility.

On the Xbox side, Microsoft continues to prioritize the Xbox Game Pass service, so Games with Gold games aren’t big-name. The Escapists 2 is the sequel to the hit standalone game that invited us to control a group of prisoners planning to escape from a prison. This new installment offers a greater variety of prisons, each with its own difficulties and routines.

Tropico 5 – Penultimate Edition brings us a city simulator similar to SimCity, but that puts us in control of the dictator of a tropical island, maintaining his power through the ages, from the colonial period to the twenty-first century, building infrastructure, planning trade routes, and eliminating competition.

Orc Must Die! is a game that expands the classic tower defense genre, combining the installation of traps and defenses with direct control over the hero, who must protect his base from endless hordes of orcs.

Insanely Twisted Shadow Planet completes the selection of games for Xbox, with an experience of action and exploration that puts us in control of a ship that must move through a stylized planet invaded by corruption. Action, puzzles and exquisite animation that is still valid.

On the PC side, Epic Games is offering two free games over the next week: On the one hand Dead by Daylight, an asymmetrical multiplayer game that pits a group of human survivors against an assassin who must eliminate them before they complete the missions and escape the map. Both the survivors and villain are controlled by players, and each will have their own abilities to try to win the game. Dead by Daylight became a phenomenon and the only game in the genre to transcend, having received a wealth of downloadable content both original and based on other franchises.

The second title is While True: Learn (), an interesting proposal that is described as a simulator of “machine learning, neural networks, big data and AI”. In the game we control a programmer who wants to write a program that interprets the language of a cat in order to communicate with his pet. The studio that created the game promises other similar games focused on different themes, and perhaps it can be the gateway to programming for more than one.

Dead by Daylight and While True: Learn () will be available through Thursday, December 9.
