Pandemic detonates low in Red Cross volunteering in Guasave

Guasave, Sinaloa.- Before the confinement last year 2020, the health sector was one of the most affected. The local administrator of the Red Cross in Guasave reported that the pandemic triggered a drop in new volunteers in the local base because the virtual modality was a great obstacle for the students. Liliana Vega Sañudo commented that in previous years they had 100 to 104 students to be trained as volunteers, and currently they only have 75. Vega Sañudo stressed that the pandemic was a great obstacle for the benemérita because in the middle of the year is when there was an uptick in volunteers interested in performing their social service, a requirement that they are asked for in high schools or universities; however, he pointed out that in the current year 2021 only 18 students of the 25th generation were graduated from both the Guasave base and the Ruiz Cortines syndicate. He explained that the 26th generation, which is active, are the young people who are receiving training, thus being a total of 24 students in Guasave, and 15 at the base of Juan José Ríos, however, volunteers are still being added who are expected to finish next summer of 2022. He explained that the 24th generation is the one that graduated in the course of the pandemic last year 2020, where there was a favorable participation, but the fact that they had to study virtually was a great challenge for the students because the training is required both theory and practice in person, this is why many young people chose to drop out of school. He explained that students receive support such as medical insurance and life insurance, as well as their full uniform.
