15 days of free games begin on the Epic Games store

As in the past two years, Epic Games began its celebration of the festivities with a series of store-wide discounts and daily free games. The games will be available for 24 hours, starting at 1 p.m. each day, and can be redeemed with an Epic Games account. The first of these is Shenmue 3, the action-narrative adventure from Ys Net studio released in 2019. Shenmue is a series that was born in 1999 on SEGA’s Dreamcast console, and became a cult classic, and one of the industry’s first open-world games, combining elements of life simulator, action quick time events, and role-playing.

Shenmue and Shenmue 2, released in 2001, were celebrated for their technical aspect, realism, and ambition, but criticized for their gameplay issues and emphasis on mundane tasks and repetitive mechanics. The saga tells the story of Ryo Hazuka, a young man who returns to his family’s dojo, in Japan in 1986, to witness the murder of his father at the hands of a Chinese man named Lan Di. The first game is set in Japan, and ends with the trip to China to continue the search. Both titles are available in remastered versions.” In this third installment of the epic Shenmue series, Ryo seeks to solve the mystery behind the Phoenix Mirror, an artifact sought after by his father’s killer. “His journey takes him to an immersive depiction of rural China, brimming with activity and surrounded by beautiful landscapes.”

Shenmue 3, released nearly two decades after the second part, retains many of those features. The game created by Yu Suzuki seems not to account for the vast majority of advances in the industry, as evidenced by the scores it received on its debut. However, nostalgic and fans of the saga welcomed it with open arms, particularly as the story remains unfinished. Shenmue 3 will be available until tomorrow at 1 p.m. in Argentina, when it will be replaced by a mysterious game.
