Gabriel Boric and José Antonio Kast sent “letter to the Chileans” for the runoff

Presidential candidates Gabriel Boric (Apruebo Dignidad) and José Antonio Kast (Republican Party) sent a “letter to Chileans” that was published in El Mercurio. In the letters, both standard-bearers express their visions and commitments for this Sunday’s elections. For his part, Gabriel Boric indicates that this is a “day in which there are no differences (…) this egalitarian principle of democracy is not lived day by day.” With this, it alludes to citizen demands. “In recent years, we have also witnessed the abuses of those who, from the economic and political power, have not known or have not wanted to listen to the signs of boredom and fatigue that were expressed with force from the social outbreak.” “It is these pains that have inspired us since we mobilized for a free, quality public education. It is these realities that continue to mobilize us.” He also mentions his opponent, indicating that “contrary to what the other candidacy proposes, it is not in the past where we will meet again, nor is it with old recipes that we will heal our wounds, but moving towards the construction of a better country.” “My commitment is to move forward, without haste but without pause, in the construction of a Chile of common rights and duties, not of privileges.” From the other side, José Antonio Kast assures that this Sunday “two models of the country” face each other. One that promises refoundation and total transformation. Ours, which promises change with order and stability.” We want to put an end to the extreme polarization of the political and media debate, and for this we must reflect on the reasons that led us to this point and commit ourselves together to the solutions that are required to overcome it, “he says. With this, he warns that “if we do not recover the atmosphere of civic friendship that was achieved in the last 30 years, it will be impossible for the economy to grow.” Along with exposing his commitments in different matters, he adds that “the problem is that hatred, violence and intolerance have led us down the wrong path.” “Because I love Chile and because I have the strength, the team and the ideas to lead the construction of our future, it will be an honor to become the President (…) and I will promote changes that allow us to achieve peace, order and progress,” he concluded.
