Seremi de Salud confirms nine cases of Covid-19 in Rapa Nui after almost 15 months without infections

The Provincial Health Seremi of Rapa Nui confirmed nine cases of Covid-19 on the island. The infected – residents – arrived in the territory through a flight, in which 231 passengers were going.
“The Seremi de Salud de Isla de Pascua informs that after the arrival of the flight that brought 231 passengers, residents of Rapa Nui, on December 15, the five-day isolation established in Resolution No. 301 of 29.10.2021 of the Seremi de Salud de Valparaíso was carried out,” seremi said in a statement.
After their isolation period ended, the passengers were given a PCR and antigen test for SARS-CoV2.
“Once this process is concluded, we must report that, of the total number of passengers tested, nine positive cases resulted, which have their complete vaccination schedule, are asymptomatic and in good health,” they explained in the statement.
Recall that on the island there were no cases of Covid-19 for 15 months. In September 2020, the last outbreak was detected in Rapa Nui.
The island’s authorities had planned that commercial flights to the territory would resume in February 2022.
