Seremi de Valparaíso closes three beaches in Puchuncaví due to the presence of the Portuguese frigate

The Seremi of Valparaíso decreed the provisional closure in three beaches of the commune of Puchuncaví, after the presence of a type of siphonophore hydrozoan known as a Portuguese frigate was detected.
The beaches of Aguas Blancas, Quirilluca and La Luna are affected by the presence of this “species dangerous to human health” according to the World Health Organization (WHO). So the Navy and the Seremi de Salud of the Valparaíso region made the decision to cancel all recreation activities and prohibition of bathing.
“The measure considers the temporary prohibition of bathing and recreational activities in the marine environment on the indicated beaches, in which extractive and productive activities can only be carried out with caution, until the Health Authority determines it,” says the statement of the health agency.
From the Ministry of Health (Minsal) recommend going to a doctor if you had contact with the species and has the following symptoms: burns, redness and swelling in the affected area.
