More than 50% of Chileans want to change consumption habits and believe inflation will worsen in 2022

As a complex year, but not a bad one, 49% of those consulted in the third edition of the “Ipsos Keys” report rated 2021, which seeks to provide a current look at national and citizen events. Meanwhile, 21 percent of the 801 survey participants said the outgoing year was “stable.” But 20% admitted that 2021 was bad and only 1 in 10 respondents valued it as “good” or “excellent”. Faced with the question: “Do you think that the following aspects related to the economy in Chile will improve or worsen?”, 51% predicted that inflation will worsen and only 14% believe that it will improve. On foreign investment, 35% think it will be worse than the previous year, but 43% think it will stay the same. In relation to unemployment and the country’s economy, 30% and 36% respectively predicted that they will have a negative return. They also asked about the consumption patterns they expect to have next year compared to 2021: 52% mentioned agreeing to “change my priorities in terms of what I consume”. 46% said “we’re going to have to spend more” and 43% said “in my home we’re going to have less money available.” When asked about what will be the expenses where people will increase their investment the most, 28% mentioned education, 25% food and food, and 23% basic services. In what was less interest in increasing their expenses is in alcoholics (7%) and in gambling (6%). In fact, 56% say they should buy less alcohol and 66% fewer games. Among the most positive milestones of 2021 for the country, the most popular among those consulted was the delivery of the IFE, with 88% approval. This was followed by the vaccination process against the coronavirus (83%) and in third place was the announcement of the Universal Guaranteed Pension (75%). Also highlighted in the list of positive milestones were the beginning of the work of the Constitutional Convention (55%), the presentation of the Constitutional Accusation against President Piñera (48%) and the rejection of the Constitutional Accusation against him (32%). Regarding the most important events of the year, 29% said that the main one was the vaccination process against covid, 24% highlighted the delivery of the IFE and 13% said that the presidential elections in the first and second round (13%). Then space was given to the withdrawals of pension funds (10%), the beginning of the work of the Constitutional Convention (10%) and the approval of equal marriage (5%). In relation to the handling of the pandemic, the Government reached its best evaluation in 2021 with 47% approval, with an increase of 19% compared to November. Only 28% evaluated their management negatively. The Ómicron variant was also an item: 34% believe it will be serious for the country and 30% estimate that it will be very serious. Only 3% think it will be nothing serious. Despite the perception of severity of the strain, 36% feel protected against it and 19% very protected. Only 3% say they are not protected at all. Finally, questioned about indicators of well-being and cohesion in the country, the most criticized by the sample was: trust in institutions (76% of negative evaluation), mood of people (71%), general well-being of people (69%), governance (68%) and
