Less than two months after arriving in La Moneda on March 11, Gabriel Boric has settled with his team in dependencies of the patrimonial house where the Institute of International Studies of the University of Chile worked, which became the main headquarters and was called “La Moneda Chica”.
Every day citizens adherents to Apruebo Dignidad arrive at the establishment, to give him gifts and take pictures with him. Journalists and demonstrators visit him daily and the President-elect usually always devotes time to them.
This Wednesday, especially, the distinguished visit brought by an assistant, a Ketro hen, a native Mapuche bird found in the national territory, went viral.
“Today Patricio brought a curious visit. The Ketro hen is a bird that inhabited these lands in pre-Hispanic times and was brought from Polynesia. For years he has worked to get to the origins of this little animal and today he made the President-Elect know him,” posted the Instagram account of the president-elect’s team.
Immediately the networks were filled with positive comments, emphasizing that the animal is the only one of its kind that lays blue eggs. In addition, many followers indicated that they valued the contact that the former student leader has deployed with the citizens.
“The idea was to bring him this ketro, which is a native chicken, it’s a pre-Columbian chicken. This is a reconstruction, where I have tried to purify it and treat the five centuries of miscegenation that this hen has to recover this Chilean Mapuche heritage, “said the owner of the feather on CNN Chile.
“The idea was that he (Boric) would see them so that at some point a national recovery plan for this hen would be made,” he added, urging the President-elect to incorporate into his government program some measure that protects the species that today is used by some groups for commercial or sports purposes.
“There are groups that raise these hens, but for commercial purposes, with a social club purpose of competitions and those things, but they forget the true heritage that it is: they are a hen of unique genius,” he said.
