Peru files complaints of Keiko Fujimori for alleged irregularities in elections

The Public Prosecutor’s Office of the National Jury of Elections of Peru (JNE) has reported that the Prosecutor’s Office has ordered it to file the complaints for the alleged falsification of signatures of members of the polling stations, denounced by the candidate of Popular Force, Keiko Fujimori. The corresponding provincial prosecutor’s offices determined that there are no elements of conviction to formalize, or continue with the preparatory investigation for the alleged commission of a crime against the public faith, in the form of falsification of documents during the Second Presidential Election of the General Elections 2021, “said the JNE in a statement. This decision of the Prosecutor’s Office comes after the relevant investigations concluded that, indeed, the signatures registered in the electoral records correspond to the relevant members of the tables, and recognized that “not on all occasions it is possible to reproduce the signatures identically,” according to the newspaper ‘La República’. In this way, the Public Ministry has settled the investigation of the alleged commission of this crime, denounced by the candidate Fujimori in the framework of the presidential elections against Pedro Castillo, who finally emerged victorious in the elections. Fujimori considered that there were indications of fraud in some polling stations from which Castillo would be benefiting. The candidates for the first and second vice presidency, Luis Galarreta and Patricia Juárez, have also tried to prove evidence of the commission of fraud, although the arguments presented have been refuted by the competent electoral bodies. Peru remained for weeks waiting to know who would be its next president after the disputed second round held on June 6, which left Castillo with 50.1 percent of the votes, ahead of the ultraconservative option represented by Fujimori, who with 49.87 percent of the ballots repeatedly asked for the annulment of minutes.
