INADI repudiated the statements of Soledad Acuña

The National Institute against Discrimination, Xenophobia and Racism (INADI) issued a statement in which it repudiated the controversial statements of the Minister of Education of the City of Buenos Aires, Soledad Acuña.Al regarding the statements of the official, the agency said: “It implies a serious institutional damage that Minister Soledad Acuña has addressed herself in a discriminatory manner to the population receiving her policies. Even more so in the case of minors and historically vulnerable groups, who during the last years also had to suffer the effects of a pandemic.” In addition, the statement adds: “Acuña’s statements not only disregard her obligations as an official, but with her speech she adds another dimension to discrimination, by holding vulnerable groups responsible for their situation and making unfounded and stigmatizing associations regarding childhood, crime, poverty and public education.” The impact of the pandemic unleashed an unprecedented situation in the social, educational and health spheres, leaving dramatic figures particularly for children in our country,” SAID INADI about the difficulties during the coronavirus pandemic. In turn, the agency criticized Acuña: “The statements of the Buenos Aires minister demonstrate, instead, her elitist ideological prejudices and a contempt for public affairs in general. Personal bias that he has manifested on other occasions and that is shared by his political environment.” Finally, it is worth mentioning that the Minister of Education had spoken about the school dropout of many children during the pandemic: “Those children will surely be lost from a village or have already fallen into drug trafficking activities.”
