CIDE students close Mexico-Toluca for amago in exchange for statutes

In protest against Conacyt’s intention – for the second time in 10 days – to modify the statutes of CIDE, the student and teaching community of this research center keeps the Mexico-Toluca highway closed in both directions.
Minutes after 09:00 hours, just at the time when the session convened by the head of Conacyt, María Elena Álvarez-Buylla, was to begin, the community closed the circulation towards the center.
According to his call, the blockade would be maintained for 56 minutes – one for each day that has passed since José Antonio Romero Tellaeche was elected as director of CIDE.

After that time had elapsed and if the Assembly of Associates of the CIDE voted in favor of modifying the statutes with what is intended to legitimize the election of Romero Tellaeche, as well as the person in charge of the office, Jordy Micheli, the closure to the circulation would continue until personnel of the Ministry of the Interior appear at the point and give guarantees that they will convene the dialogue.
By 10:00 a.m., the student and academic community, which is accompanied by representatives of 14 public universities in the country, including guadalajara, made the decision to close both directions to circulation.
“The faculty assembly strongly asks Dr. Romero and Dr. Álvarez Buylla to stop trampling on our statutes, to return to legality,” said Catherine Andrews, academic and former academic secretary of CIDE.

“The CIDE facilities are closed and there is no reason for that closure, the only reason is that Dr. Romero either wants and cannot face the position of the community that is unanimous. He keeps the facilities closed because of his own cowardice and because he is not willing to come and give us the face.”

The student assembly points out that if the reforms are approved, the blockade will be permanent until @SEGOB_mx gives guarantees of resolution. Representatives of 14 universities have gathered at the headquarters of the @CIDE_MX, they say.

Staff from the City’s Secretariat of Citizen Security (SSC) are in the area helping with road blocks. Meanwhile, people traveling on public transport have descended from it and followed their path on foot.
Vehicles have been asked to make a U-turn. At least 10 trailers remain stationary in the middle of the road waiting to continue on their way
By 10:20 a.m., the Student Assembly reported that it had confirmation that the session convened by Conacyt had begun and that, at the moment, at least three of the Ochoa participants were arguing against the modification to the statutes of CIDE.
As it could be confirmed, the College of Mexico -which is one of the associates- is demonstrating against the modification because the procedure itself that Conacyt convened is in violation of the statutes themselves.
