The municipal president of Contepec, Michoacán, is assassinated

Enrique Velázquez Orozco, municipal president of Contepec, municipality of Michoacán, was killed by firearm, the state prosecutor’s office said.
According to local authorities, Velázquez Orozco, who had been missing since Saturday, February 5, was found dead in a property in the town of El Jacal, in the same municipality.
The Prosecutor’s Office of Michoacán maintained that the relatives of the mayor of Contepec did not know the whereabouts of the official, but that they did not denounce “in the expectation that he would return and in the fear that his integrity would be put at risk.”

The entity said it has located and collected evidence that will be analyzed, to clarify the murder.

The violence in Michoacán has left several episodes so far in 2022. On January 27, seven people, three men and four women, died after an armed attack on a home in the El Porvenir neighborhood of Zamora, the state prosecutor’s office said.
Days later, the portal Monitor Michoacán denounced the murder of Roberto Toledo, one of its members, in response to the journalistic work carried out by the site, according to its director, Armando Linares.
Throughout 2021, six entities concentrated 50.1% of the victims of intentional homicide: Guanajuato, Baja California, Michoacán, State of Mexico, Chihuahua and Jalisco.
