Conaf reported that forest fire in Timaukel is contained and declares yellow alert in the sector

The National Forestry Corporation (Conaf) reported that the fire that has affected 1,357 hectares in the town of Timaukel, Magallanes region, is contained, canceling the red alert and decreeing a yellow alert for the area.
This decision was determined after a meeting between the regional director of Conaf together with the Presidential Delegation of Magallanes, Onemi and the Seremi of Agriculture. Appointment in which it was found that the incident that began on January 25 has not shown progress during the last six days.

Despite there being some small advances in the field of the forestry company Russfin, the regional director, Mauricio Véjar, said that “these are hangings that quickly with the action of the helicopters that are maintained in the sector are quickly extinguished, so that when there is no progress the yellow alert is declared”.
The regional presidential delegate (s), Margarita Norambuena, was satisfied with the measure taken, indicating that “it has been an intense work after 15 days and we are on a good footing which merits the change of alert, which does not mean that it can not be declared again if necessary.”
Véjar also referred to the difference between containment and control of the fire, expressing that “there is talk of containment when there is no advance of the fire, but some internal activity or some probability of regrowth continues, while a controlled incident is that there is no longer a probability that it will continue to spread.”
When the yellow alert was decreed, the air resources decreased such as the demobilization of the Hercules C-130 and amphibious aircraft – both will go to the accidents in the north of the country – leaving the helicopter of the Torres del Paine National Park, the Superpuma and the Leo System newly incorporated.
