A family needed almost $80,000 in January to avoid falling into poverty in CABA

According to the survey of the Buenos Aires Statistics and Census Directorate, a “type” family of four, living in the city of Buenos Aires, needed at least $ 79,988 in January 2022 to not be poor. This figure shows an increase in the cost of living of 5% compared to last December. In that sense, the same family group needed at least $ 42,747 in January to avoid falling under the line of destitution. Here there was a 6% increase in the cost of living compared to December 2021.
The data comes from the monthly report prepared by the General Directorate of Statistics and Censuses of the City of Buenos Aires, which also measures the income values of the middle class. In this way, the publication points out that a person needed at least $ 124,250 in the City to remain within the middle class. This represented 5.2% more than in the month of December. The statistics do not include in the final published issue the costs for the payment of housing rent or common expenses, which are considered consumption expenses. The cumulative increase in the last twelve months was 48.5% for the indigence basket, 47.1% for the poverty basket and 48.8% for the middle class.
