La Plata organizes a solidarity hair collection for cancer patients

Within the framework of the month of awareness and fight against childhood cancer, the Municipality of the Buenos Aires city of La Plata organized a new solidarity hair collection, which will be used to make wigs for cancer patients. As reported from the commune of the provincial capital, the activity will be carried out this Monday, February 21 and will have the participation of more than 20 volunteer stylists, who will make cuts at the Malvinas Islands Cultural Center, on Avenue 19 and 51. “We know that wigs help children a lot and we want this to be a date of awareness and action, promoting the solidarity and empathy of all neighbors,” explained the secretary general of the commune, Raúl Cadaá.To participate in the day, a minimum of 20 cm of hair is required and that it is clean and dry. According to official information, in the collection all types of hair are received, either with gray hair, dyed or bleached; and also hair already cut.

This is the second consecutive year that La Plata organizes this activity. In 2021, with the collected hair, about 170 wigs were made, which were delivered free of charge to patients. In this regard, the Undersecretary of Community Linkage, Hugo Béssolo, said: “Last year all the hair that was put together was donated to a wig bank in the city of Lobos and the idea for this year is to be able to collaborate with several other places.” The solidarity day will be replicated in several cities of the country, since at the initiative of the Social Volunteer Network of Platense, it will be held in places such as Mar del Plata, Mendoza, Balcarce, La Rioja, Puerto Madryn, Olavarría and Chacabuco.
