Neighbors of the Bajo porteño area will make a “symbolic embrace” tomorrow

The protest is called by neighborhood organizations and will be held at 7:30 a.m. at the intersection of Paseo Colón and Humberto Primo with the slogan #Sinárbolesnohayvida. As they said, the intention will be to obstruct the felling of two specimens, which is scheduled by the Buenos Aires administration since 8.The organizations -including Árboles de San Telmo and Basta de Mutilar Nuestros Árboles- denounced, days ago, the “massive felling” of the public tree line for the extension work of the Metrobus, which included the elimination of 70 ash trees, ficus, tipas, eucalyptus and drunken sticks.

The extension of the exclusive corridor for buses began in October of last year and is in full execution in the section between Independencia and Brasil avenues, in front of Lezama Park.Strictly speaking, it is the second stage of the work, which will have an extension of almost two kilometers and will reach the neighborhoods of San Telmo and La Boca, with 16 new paradores distributed in four stops for the 19 bus lines. To achieve the expansion of the number of lanes, the Buenos Aires Government demolished some time ago two emblematic buildings of the area located at the intersection with Brazil: one where the Workshop School of the Historic Center worked, and the rest known as “Marconetti”, built in 1929.And in 2022 it advanced on the specimens of urban trees, as anticipated in a press report last year, where, although it indicated that the incorporation of 105 new trees was foreseen to the current 380 of the trace; warned that some 68 would be affected or extracted.
