Zelensky highlighted a change of “approach” by Russia in negotiations with Ukraine

Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelensky said Russia took a “fundamentally different approach” in negotiations to end the war in Eastern Europe, which began on Feb. 24.  During a press conference held on Saturday, the president reported that Moscow “no longer limits itself to giving ultimatums” and said that it “is happy to receive a signal from Russia,” after Russian President Vladimir Putin said he saw “positive steps” in the latest dialogues between the nations. On the sidelines of a meeting with his Belarusian ally Alexander Lukashenko, Putin said that now, negotiations take place “almost every day.”

According to Telam, since Russia’s invasion of Ukraine, three rounds of dialogue were organized in Belarus, which were mainly focused on the creation of humanitarian corridors for people suffering the consequences of the war. Separately, on Thursday, the Russian and Ukrainian foreign ministers met for the first time in Turkey since the beginning of the military strike, albeit with no progress in curbing the conflict. “Our interests are to cease fire, to liberate our territories. And the third point is to resolve all humanitarian issues,” Foreign Minister Dmytro Kuleba said, referring to Kiev’s demands.Russia’s government calls for Ukraine to recognize Crimea as part of its territory and the eastern regions of Donetsk and Luhansk as sovereign states, as decreed by Putin before starting the military invasion.
