President Boric and signs the 15-N agreement: “To achieve transformations, it is necessary to sit at the table with those who think differently”

President Gabriel Boric addressed on Monday his signature in the Agreement for Social Peace and the New Constitution, on November 15, 2019. The President signed the document for himself, without the permission of his Social Convergence party, which generated criticism within that collectivity.
The head of state said that “this was possible thanks to the mobilization of the people of Chile. Here for a long time there had been an attempt to change the Constitution (…) product of the traps that the Constitution itself had, that was impossible.”

“At that time I had the conviction that in order to make transformations, it is necessary to sit at the table with those who think differently from us, which is a conviction that I deeply maintain.”
“I knew it was a tense moment and I knew it was a risk, and today, to some extent, the fact that I’m sitting here, has to do with that moment, but I don’t want to ignore the role that many other people played.”
Boric highlighted the cases of the former presidents of Comunes and Democratic Revolution, Javiera Toro and Catalina Pérez, or the deputy Paulina Núñez (RN).
He also spoke about former Senator Andres Allamand. “You have to be on the opposite side of Allamand, because it tends not to achuntarle. I was very much against it, and I didn’t want the right to sign.”
