“Where is the clitoris? Free it”: Campaign will debunk myths of the orgasmic gap

Did you know that the complete anatomy of the clitoris was known only in 1998? The human being reached the moon 30 years earlier. The orgasmic gap between heterosexual men and women, the scarce sex education and the masculinization of this debate have generated that since childhood, for the female gender, talking about corporeality, pleasure and desires are taboo topics.
This is why the Miles Chile Corporation launches the campaign #FreeTheClit which seeks to provide knowledge about the clitoris: the only human organ generated exclusively for enjoyment, and thus improve sexuality and educate girls from childhood.

The orgasmic gap
According to a study by the Observatory of Sexual, Reproductive Health and Human Rights of the Miles Corporation, the orgasmic gap between men and women is 95% versus 65%. According to the psychologist of the My Intimacy Center, María Victoria Rosati, it is due to the coitocentrism existing, i.e. sex based on penetration, where female sensoriality is limited focused on the stimulation of the clitoris as the basis of an equitable sexual activity in enjoyment for both genders.
A common myth is related to the belief that the clitoris is an erect penis: for some strange reason, for years – until today – to explain the anatomy of the clitoris it is compared to the penis. The clitoris is unique and is part of a woman’s anatomy. They have more than 8,000 nerve endings and can be stimulated with fingers, tongue or a sex toy, especially those that vibrate.

Sex education in Chile delivered from early childhood refers exclusively to human biology and anatomy, when it should correctly “be integral from the earliest stage of schooling depending on the stages of development in which children are. This will allow us to have healthier sex, fully exercise our sexual and reproductive rights but also hand in hand with the eradication of violence against women, girls and sexual dissent. Comprehensive sex education is the only formula,” says Javiera Canales, director of Corporación Miles.
The campaign is aimed at the knowledge of the clitoris not only in its shape, size and exact place where it is, but in the paradigm shift that it has in the field of sexual and reproductive life of people. That is why the expert points out that based on the historically silenced profile of women and their sexuality, “#FreeTheClit” is an initiative focused on psychoeducation, aimed at eradicating violence and recognizing pleasure as a right.
