Constitutional Convention begins to dialogue
For the first time, and within the framework of the progress of the replacement report of the Political System Commission, all the collectives began a round of meetings, in order to seek approaches that allow to make viable the changes to Congress and the Executive that they hope to incorporate into the proposal of a new Constitution. This, after the majority rejection of the first report, where there were no agreements on such matters, carrying contradictory articles. Similar case occurs in Environment, which today votes on the replacement report, as well as the second constitutional proposal, which were rejected in plenary. Transversally, the constituents assured that all are making efforts to find middle ground and asked some sectors not to entrench themselves in positions that already showed no support in the plenary instance. Full details of the political deliberation within the Constitutional Convention, here.
President of the TC, linked to the political silvers of the Penta group, rules in favor of the Penta group
Six inapplicability requirements were filed by insurance companies against the third withdrawal of pension funds in the form of annuities, of which three were accepted by the Constitutional Court. Two of them were presented by the Penta group, owned by Carlos Alberto Délano – a friend of former President Sebastián Piñera and whose family owns the Dominga mining company – and Carlos Eugenio Lavín, both sentenced to ethics classes in the criminal edge of the illegal financing of politics. The sensitivity of the ruling, point out sources close to the TC, is that “insurers may put millions in compensation claims against the Treasury for the third withdrawal.” But, as if that were not enough, the ruling in favor of the holding company – linked to the unionism – had the vote of the interim president of the TC, the former UDI Cristián Letelier, who was linked precisely to the scandal of the political silvers of the Penta group, when the content of an email was known where he asked for money from the controller of the conglomerate of companies, for a campaign by Pablo Longueira. The details of one of the most commented news of the week, in this link.

How the “Beast” doll got into Steven Spielberg’s hands
For two weeks, the director of the short film Hugo Covarrubias and the producer Álvaro “Tevo” Díaz have been in the city of Los Angeles, California, to attend the different activities organized around the Academy Award, prior to the traditional ceremony that will be held this Sunday, March 27 at the Dolby Theater. In this interview with El Mostrador, Covarrubias tells about his stay and the reception that the short film has had in the American city. At a luncheon with all the nominees organized every year by the Academy at the Fairmont Century Plaza Hotel, the outstanding American director Steven Spielberg and the Mexican Guillermo Del Toro attracted attention, in the networks and the media, for their photographs holding the wrist of Ingrid Olderöck. Hugo Covarrubias spoke with El Mostrador.
“Those who oppose change will be held accountable to the public”
It has been almost three weeks since the parliamentarians elected during 2021 entered office. The challenges of the announced Feminist Government are broad, not only in terms of gender, but also with respect to the LGBTIQ+ community. In conversation with El Mostrador Braga, Deputy Emilia Schneider reflects on the main barriers to overcome, among which the focus of the opposition stands out. For her, there is a right that still does not decide if it wants to collaborate, be constructive with its points of difference, or if it will opt for the path promoted by sectors such as the Republican Party, which is a rejection of everything, with a predisposition to “lock the ball” and generate a climate of “hatefulness and lack of control”. The interview was an exclusive of El Mostrador Braga.
“We were not able to make the necessary changes”
In an extensive interview with Ivan Weissman, who was Michelle Bachelet’s finance minister, he asserts that the Chilean version of capitalism was more extreme and dogmatic, while emphasizingn that society in Chile has to meet again, reach an agreement on how politics is done and, thus, avoid falling into populism. He also warns that the new political cycle that starts with the government of Gabriel Boric has to find a way to return to growth in a healthy way in a much more complex global scenario, with higher inflation, higher interest rates, in addition to greater polarization. And to that we must add the energy transition. Former minister Rodrigo Valdés was in La Mesa.
Theft of weapons from the Army: one more ulcer in national security

“The theft of fifty weapons in the Institute of Research and Control of the Army (IDIC), is a serious sign of the relaxation of the routines of discipline and control that the armed services of the State live, which directly affects national security. The insufficient explanations provided by the IDIC in a public statement, and the ambiguous and incompetent of the civil leaders of the sector, including Minister Maya Fernández herself, make it clear that one of the most important components of the country’s security, the IDIC, is pierced, possibly by a criminal organization, which with the theft has just exposed all its shortcomings. The highlight of the week is from lawyer Santiago Escobar.
Multilingualism as a principle, linguistic rights and intercultural education

Last week (March 16) the Plenary of the Constitutional Convention voted on Article 12, on multilingualism. The norm was presented by the Commission of Constitutional Principles, with the transversal sponsorship of conventional, headed by the reserved seats, and is articulated with two other initiatives of norms that have not yet reached the Plenary: one referring to the linguistic rights of indigenous peoples and the other on the right to multilingual and intercultural education; the latter two submitted to the Committee on Fundamental Rights. “The heart of the norm is not officialization, but multilingualism.” The issue was addressed by the conventional and former president of the body that drafts the new Magna Carta of the country Elisa Loncon Antileo.
