Public Ministry requests extradition before the justice of former mayor of Antofagasta Karen Rojo

On Monday, the Regional Prosecutor’s Office of Antofagasta asked the Guarantee Court of the city to schedule a hearing to debate the extradition of the former mayor, Karen Rojo, who fled the country on the same day that her sentence was known.
It should be remembered that Rojo was tried to serve five years of effective presiding over a corruption case. That day he set out for the Netherlands, where no further details are known. The international arrest warrant has already been requested.

“I come to request that the participants be summoned to a hearing to discuss the active extradition of the accused convicted by a final final sentence, Karen Rojo Venegas, with registered address in the court, whose grounds and background will be justified in the hearing that is set,” said through a letter the chief prosecutor of Antofagasta, Cristián Aguilar.
Aguilar is in the sights of the national prosecutor, Jorge Abbott, since the latter asked for explanations about the null precautionary measures that Rojo had during the investigation of his case.
The judge, Marco Antonio Rojas, summoned the parties for tomorrow to discuss a possible extradition request to international justice. “Given the merit of the background, all the participants are summoned to a hearing on March 29, 2022, at 8:30 a.m. This could be done by videoconference, through the zoom platform on the date and time indicated, “says the resolution.
Karen Rojo has an Interpol alert which allows her to be detained once she is controlled in any country, while waiting for a resolution from the Chilean justice. That is why it is crucial what will be decided tomorrow for the future of the former mayor.
