Inauguration of 9MW solar plant expansion at Casa Blanca in the Valparaíso Region

This week it was announced the inauguration and commissioning of the expansion to 9MW of its Piquero solar plant located in the commune of Casablanca, Valparaíso region. The most innovative of the group, this photovoltaic plant completes, through the increase in its installed capacity, the consolidation of a portfolio of four solar plants developed and operated by the company in the country.
Gestión Solar S.A., a Chilean company dedicated to building and operating PMGD projects (small means of distributed generation) was in charge of this project and the one that developed the expansion of the installed capacity of Piquero after nine months of works, so that the plant can generate 9 MW, from its original power of 3MW.
“The expansion of Piquero is an important milestone within the project we have developed, given that in 2018 we began the construction of the first phase of this plant with a power of 3MW, and now we have expanded it to three times its size, currently reaching 9MW of injectable power, which is the maximum allowed by the legislation of the PMGD”, says Tomás Herzfeld, general manager of the company.
Thanks to this expansion in the power of Piquero, the firm manages to approach its goal: to produce an amount of clean energy that replaces the emission into the atmosphere of 31 thousand tons of CO2, to benefit approximately 12 thousand people. The project aligns with Chile’s Decarbonization Plan and The United Nations Sustainable Development Goal No. 7: “Ensure access to affordable, reliable, sustainable and modern energy for all.”
The developer, builder and operator of PMGD projects currently has in its portfolio three plants in operation (including the Piquero plant whose expansion has just been inaugurated), and a fourth plant in the completion stage, close to its connection to the grid. The total installed capacity of the project portfolio corresponds to 22.4MW, obtained from a plant located in the commune of La Estrella (VI Region), two plants in the commune of Putaendo, and a plant in the commune of Casablanca, the latter three located in the V Region.
It should be noted that renewable energies are presented as a challenge in the country as a way to take care of the environment in the midst of the crisis that is currently being experienced in the world.
