More than 1,300 Ukrainian civilians have been killed since the start of the war

According to the report published today by the United Nations High Commissioner for Human Rights, since the beginning of the war between Russia and Ukraine, more than 1,300 Ukrainian civilians have been killed and more than 2,000 injured. “From 4:00 a.m. on February 24, when the Armed Federation’s armed attack on Ukraine began, until 0:00 a.m. on April 1, the High Commissioner has recorded 3,342 civilian casualties in Ukraine: 1,325 dead and 2,017 wounded,” the report states. The deceased were 268 men, 189 women, 36 boys and 20 girls, to which are added 64 children and 748 adults pending identification. Meanwhile, 235 men, 177 women, 39 girls and 35 boys were injured, and 94 children and 1,437 adults who have not yet been recognized, according to the Europa Press news agency.By control areas, from the United Nations a total of 1,258 dead and 1,771 injured are estimated in territory still controlled by the Ukrainian government, counting the 381 dead and 793 wounded in the Donetsk and Luhansk regions in the east of the country. In the area under the control of the militias of the self-proclaimed republics, the UN recorded 313 casualties, with 67 killed and 246 wounded. Most of the civilian casualties were caused by the use of “wide impact area” explosive weapons, heavy artillery, the use of rocket platforms and air strikes. According to the UN, the actual figures “are considerably higher, especially in government-controlled territory and especially in recent days.” In its report, the agency “takes note” of the report of the Prosecutor General’s Office of Ukraine, according to which as of this morning, 158 children were killed and 254 injured.
