Russia warns of the “real” risk of a Third World War for Ukraine

Russian Foreign Minister Sergei Lavrov warned on Monday (25.04.2022) that the danger of nuclear war “is serious, it is real, it should not be underestimated.”
Lavrov stated in an interview with the Big Game program on Channel One, reproduced by several Russian agencies, that although “the inadmissibility of a nuclear war is Moscow’s principled position, the danger of such a conflict should not be underestimated.”
He recalled that in January the five permanent members of the UN Security Council ruled on the inadmissibility of a nuclear war. “This is our principled position, we are guided by this and of course I would not like to see these risks artificially inflated now, when the risks are quite significant,” he said.
In addition, he claimed that the weapons sent by the West to Ukraine to defend against the Russian invasion will become the target of the armed forces sent by Moscow to invade the neighboring country.
On the other hand, he said that Russia will continue to negotiate with Ukraine, although he warned that the war waged by Moscow will end with a treaty based on “the current situation of military operations.”
The head of diplomacy added that “the Russian side intends to continue negotiations” with Kiev representatives appointed by Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelensky. “We are still negotiating with the team that Zelensky put in,” he added. “These contacts will continue.”
“As in any situation where the armed forces are used, of course, everything will end with a treaty, but the parameters of this treaty will be determined by the stage of hostilities in which this treaty becomes a reality,” the Russian minister said.
The foreign minister accused the Ukrainian government of keeping “the civilian population as a human shield” on the borders of Mariupol.
