Neuquén: They were evicted and the mayor gave them accommodation

The municipality of Caviahue, in Neuquén, provided accommodation to a nurse who had been evicted twice with his family. “We are not going to leave them on the street,” said Mayor Hugo Volpe.La family was at the door of their home since Tuesday morning, with all their belongings on the snow. In the run-up to the first post-covid winter season, the owners prefer to rent it to tourists. “They are asking all the monthly tenants to give them the homes so that they can have them available for tourism,” volpe said, speaking to LM Nequén. In that context, this would not be the only case. The family will now stay in a rental cabin. This situation, unfortunately, is not new to the Oliva family. It is the second time he has been evicted. The first happened some time ago, when the cabin in which they lived was sold and the new owner did not want to rent it. At that time, Walter, his wife and their three children endured 6 months in that home, until the real estate offered them another as a temporary solution, which concluded a few hours ago with a new eviction. As mentioned above, the problem is not new. Walter, for his part, has been demanding a solution since 2017. At the time, he proposed to the health authorities a system that is already applied with doctors: the Executive gives them a home and deducts a part of the salary. However, his proposal was rejected. The nurse also said that five of his colleagues are in the same situation. To all this is added the price of rents, which today, he said, does not fall below $ 50,000, a figure that represents almost 50% of his salary. After the first eviction, Walter had to return to El Huecú, where he is from. But then they threatened to sanction him for absenteeism.” I work all week and it’s not enough to give my children a good quality of life,” he lamented. From the intendancy they assured that they are working on a “housing plan” to give a solution to this problem.
