The President of the Republic, Gabriel Boric, celebrated the election of biochemist Rosa Devés Alessandri as the first woman to be rector of the house of studies. “Historic moment for the University of Chile,” he said.
Through his social networks, the President congratulated Devés “for becoming the first woman rector of the university. Tremendous luxury for the House of Bello and for the whole country.”

In conversation with CNN Chile, the rector-elect said that “it is a tremendous challenge, I realize that I represent many women who have given very important in the academy and one is a product of all that history, of all the work. This is not my triumph, it is the triumph of all women.”
Notably, Devés holds a PhD in Biochemistry from the University of Western Ontario, an academic at the School of Medicine and has previously served as pro-rector and vice-chancellor for Academic Affairs.
