Mirtha Legrand on her future job: “I swear I’m going to keep working”

After two years of absence due to the coronavirus pandemic, this May 15, 2022, the Martín Fierro gala returned, the most important awards on national television. Organized by APTRA, the galador rewards the most outstanding cycles and figures of the small screen. Sunday’s gala was a gathering full of figures who attended the luxurious Sheraton Hotel in Buenos Aires dressed in glamour. It was also an extremely emotional night where there was no lack of tributes and remembrance to the artists and TV workers who are no longer among us.

After the tributes to Susana Giménez, Diego Maradona and the artists who died in the last three years, the host and actress Mirtha Legrand had her highlight at the ceremony when she received some jewels from Luis Ventura, president of APTRA. Thus, the Chiqui took the opportunity to tell those present how she lived the last years: “Last night I could not sleep and I thought: ‘If I have to go up, what am I going to say?’. It’s been two years since my television appeared, I did two specials, but not my usual programs,” said the diva who recognized the emotion she felt when her granddaughter Juana Viale, who replaced her on her show during the pandemic, won the statuette for best host.

“I thought what a long life and what a wonderful life I have had. I never put my arms down and always worked non-stop, to this day. I’m 95 years old, you have to be here at 95… And I promise you, I swear I’m going to keep working. Not under my arms, I love you very much,” he added, although he did not define whether the classic lunches will continue to be broadcast from El Trece or from another channel. I felt so happy tonight. I have found that the only thing I like is to be among my peers, so they have made me tonight a very happy woman. I thank you very much. I have felt surrounded by love and affection,” she added and highlighted the support of her family who were present that night: her daughter Marcela Tinayre, her grandchildren Juana and Nacho and her great-granddaughter Ámbar. He also thanked Elvira, his longtime assistant, who was unable to attend the gala.

She also referred to the emotion that crossed her when she saw the images of her brothers “Goldy” and “Josecito” in the tribute to the deceased artists and took the opportunity to thank the signs of affection of her colleagues, who throughout the event came to her table to greet her and after her speech gave her a standing ovation.
