Around 280 daily deaths from cardiovascular disease are estimated

The heart, the vital organ for every human being. Beyond the figurative and poetic sense, scientifically we know that the fundamental basis for a healthy life is to have a healthy heart. When talking about a healthy heart, specialists refer to a whole set of factors that must contribute to its proper functioning: arteries, heart muscle, cholesterol level, blood sugar levels, etc. That is why it is important to know and raise awareness about its proper functioning since in our country, it is the main cause of death. Despite this estimate, cardiological diseases do not affect only the local level but the WHO states that more than 30% of deaths globally have to do with cardiological diseases. Among its causes are many factors, but the main ones are: smoking, excess weight, sedentary lifestyle, hypertension, diabetes and cholesterol. Also, experts mention that some of the alarm symptoms to go to a consultation are: chest pain, palpitations, shortness of breath or feeling of suffocation. Although these could be just some of them, it should also be noted that it is a disease that can be silent or may be present for longer than we think and not yet manifest. In the same vein, Enrique Gonzalez Naya, Head of Cardiovascular Rehabilitation at IADT says: “According to 2019 statistics, one of the factors to take into account that allows the development of this type of pathology is a sedentary lifestyle and lack of physical activity. It is of utmost importance to add to our routines at least 30 minutes of daily walking, for example. In addition, it is important to have a balanced diet, avoid stressful situations, sodium consumption, smoking and above all, make annual controls. ”

Despite highlighting the importance of being able to prevent it, specialists also highlight the importance of being able to detect it in time. So much so, that in the same line Gonzalez Naya assures that “We always emphasize the importance of preventing it and detecting it in time, but today we must also recognize the importance of rehabilitation, which is a substantial benefit for a better quality of life after a cardiovascular event.” When mention is made of cardiac rehabilitation, reference is made to a series of activities or guidelines that the patient must follow and adopt as a lifestyle, which involves not only a change of routine but also of habits that last for the rest of their life. “The rehabilitation of cardiac events is a set of activities necessary to ensure people with cardiovascular diseases an optimal physical, mental and social condition that allows them to occupy by their own means a place as normal as possible in society. Many of our patients radically improve their quality of life since prior to the cardiovascular event, they generally have a sedentary lifestyle, with poor diet, plagued by stress, “says the Head of Cardiovascular Rehabilitation of IADT. Therefore, despite the high rates of this type of events that we have in our country, the great advance and development of medicine in this area stands out, which allows today to rehabilitate postcardiac event safely and with a positive impact. “After the cardiovascular event, life takes an unexpected turn and uncertainty begins to affect them, without knowing what their life will be like from now on. Will they be able to walk? Will they be able to work? Will they be able to lift up their children or grandchildren? Will they be able to do any sports? Will they be able to have sex with their partner? With cardiovascular rehabilitation we try to solve all these and other questions and demonstrate that a different lifestyle is possible and much more beneficial, “concludes the specialist.
