CDMX Prosecutor’s Office adds two new extradition requests against Roemer

The Attorney General’s Office of Mexico City (FGJCDMX) announced that it presented to the Attorney General’s Office (FGR) two new extradition requests against former diplomat and writer Andrés Roemer, accused of aggravated sexual abuse and rape.
Prosecutor Ernestina Godoy said that, with these two new requests, there are five formal requests for extradition.
In a message to the media on Tuesday, he explained that these requests have already been delivered by the Ministry of Foreign Affairs (SRE) to counterpart authorities of the government of Israel, as a complementary request for the official diplomatic procedure before the jurisdictional authorities of that country.

“In this, as in all cases, we put the victims at the center and it is the complaints that motivate our institutional work; therefore, we investigate each and every one of them that we receive in this prosecutor’s office,” Godoy said.

On January 31, Political Animal Reported that the head of the SRE, Marcelo Ebrard, sent his Israeli counterpart, Foreign Minister Yair Lapid, a letter in which he requested his cooperation to extradite Andrés Roemer to Mexico. In it, he explained that for the country his extradition is a matter of State.

Roemer, a former diplomat, businessman and former collaborator of Grupo Salinas, was accused by at least 63 women of committing acts of rape, sexual abuse and harassment.

Roemer reappeared in a video on May 10, in which he claimed that he is innocent and that the accusations against him are “unfounded.”
“I was not in the place and at the time where the facts are placed,” said the former diplomat to deny the accusations and complaints against him.
He accused that two of the four folders against him are “unfounded” and pointed to the capital prosecutor’s office of “fabrications” “for political agenda and personal interests.”
