Miguel Ángel Vázquez, former undersecretary of Mancera, in pretrial detention

Miguel Ángel Vázquez, who was undersecretary of Administration and Human Capital in the government of Miguel Ángel Mancera in Mexico City, was remanded in custody on Thursday and was admitted to the North Prison.
Vázquez, accused of possible deviations, until now was under house arrest.
The change of precautionary measure was ordered by a judge after it was determined that the information he provided in his case was not “essential and effective” so that the authorities can act against others involved, said this afternoon the spokesman of the Attorney General’s Office of the capital, Ulises Lara.

“(The data) was not sufficient to constitute evidence,” the spokesman said.

The former official is implicated in possible diversions of public resources for a billion pesos case.

Vázquez was arrested in February 2020 for his alleged responsibility in irregularities during the last administration.
Like him, other former officials of the past government have been arrested for possible acts of corruption in the management of public resources in areas such as payroll and funds for the reconstruction of the damages of the earthquake of September 19, 2017.
