Vapers can cause damage to the body such as chronic acute bronchitis, chronic obstructive pulmonary disease, extrinsic allergic alveolitis and pulmonary fibrosis, according to specialists. Many of the smokers were replacing the tobacco cigarette with vapers, not knowing that these products are more harmful to health. Although the sale of these products is prohibited, in Culiacán and in other municipalities you can see vending machines where young people can easily obtain them, even to the terminal for card payments they handle. According to Luis Alfonso García Corrales, head of the State Commission for the Prevention of Health Risks of Sinaloa (Coepriss), permanent operations are being carried out to prevent their use and distribution. “Cofepris issued a health alert to withdraw all the product that is in circulation. It is a strong product, since these machines are in shopping malls or main avenues and are easily accessible to minors.” In Sinaloa, around 20 machines have been closed and operations continue to be carried out to prevent these harmful products from reaching young people.
García Corrales pointed out that the fines for distributing these new steam cigars are from 170 to 600 thousand pesos. According to Manuel Velázquez Ceballos, director of the Youth Integration Center in Sinaloa, these products reached young people as a fashion more than anything for them.
He said that the ICJs do not serve young people with damages from using vapers, because consumers come to have a high socioeconomic level. Despite that, it has been detected that young people are inhaling this type of harmful vapor. Consumers Esmeralda Lopez, 25, said she had been using vapers for about six months, but since the health alert was launched she decided to leave it. The young woman expressed that when she consumed it she felt relaxed, but sometimes dizzy, and although sometimes she feels like using it again, she has stopped. “Since they were declared a health emergency, I decided not to buy them anymore, mainly because of the example that as adults we give to minors, who are more exposed to creating an addiction at an early age.” He said he agrees with its ban because of the great risks it has to health.
