At least three people killed and 11 wounded in Philadelphia shooting

At least three people have died and eleven have been injured in a shooting last night on a street in Philadelphia (Pennsylvania, USA), police said Sunday.
The injured were taken to health centers and, police spokesmen told the media, “two men and a woman were pronounced dead after arriving at hospitals with multiple gunshot wounds.”
According to local media, several attackers reportedly fired into a crowd in a popular nightclub area.
A police officer in the area shot one of the shooters, after which the man dropped his gun and fled the scene. The attackers have not yet been located.
The event was recorded in one of the most popular meeting places in the city and, according to witnesses, triggered chaos among the people who were in the place.
Two semi-automatic weapons were recovered at the crime scene, one with an extended magazine, something Democratic lawmakers in the U.S. Congress will try to ban with a package of gun control measures scheduled to be voted on in the House of Representatives next week.
The debate over gun control has revived in the U.S. after the Death on May 24 of nineteen children and two teachers at an elementary school in Uvalde (Texas) by the shooting of an 18-year-old boy.
The split between Democrats and Republicans makes it difficult for gun control measures to pass congress, though expectations exist after a group of senators from both parties has held meetings in recent weeks to try to agree on legislation on the issue.

U.S. President Joe Biden himself has urged lawmakers to “do something” about what he sees as “an epidemic of gun violence” in the country.
