Hard setback for Rincon and Walker: DC Youth calls for the approval of a new Constitution and demands prompt definition of the directive

The board of the Christian Democratic Youth (JDC) decided to adhere to the Approve option, while urging the leadership of the collectivity, headed by the mayor of La Granja Luis Felipe Delpín, to “take the same definition” in favor of the constitutional proposal in order to subsequently correct its “shortcomings and omissions.”
In short, the JDC opted for the formula “approve to reform”, which goes in a direction contrary to what is proposed by the senators of the Falange Ximena Rincón and Matías Walker, who have already called on the government authorities and the other political forces -with a presence in Congress- to push a reform aimed at reducing to 4/7 the quorums for constitutional reforms, initiative that aims to give viability to the option of Rejection.
“Although the proposal of the new text is not yet finalized, with the essential elements already defined, the transitional norms approved, and before the multitude of actors and leaders taking a position, it is up to us as a party to take an institutional definition,” says the statement released by the Christian Democratic Youth. Among the reasons for supporting the constitutional proposal, the JDC referred to “a new treatment towards the regions and communes, allowing a more harmonious and integrated development between the different areas of the country.”
“For this reason, and considering that the great merit of the proposal for a new Constitution is that it has democratic legitimacy, allowing a discussion on a totally different level from that which occurs with the current text, which in its transitional provisions, allows a mechanism of reforms much more flexible than the current Constitution, and that it is not possible to trust that the right allows a new constituent process,” added the JDC.
In the document, the JDC indicates that “in no case is a scenario of freedom of action possible in this dilemma, because it would be to renounce the role that a political party has in a process of these characteristics, it would increase confusion in the citizenry about what the PDC thinks about the matter, and it would be to hide and postpone the internal differences that we have.”
“A great agreement is required to modify matters related to the political system, in order to improve coordination and functioning between the different institutions, guaranteeing the effective separation of powers and minimizing the risk that authoritarian warlords can seize power,” the statement added.
