Canadian filmmaker Paul Haggis ,69) was arrested in the Italian city of Ostuni after being accused of sexually abusing a woman for two days. The director and screenwriter of films such as “Million Dollar Baby” (2004), “Casino Royale” (2006) and “Letters from Iwo Jima” (2006) is under arrest on a precautionary basis, according to the order issued by prosecutor Antonio Negro and his deputy Livia Orlando Jaggis.Haggis is accused of the crimes of sexual violence and aggravated personal injury. “According to the elements collected, the investigated would have forced the young woman, known by him for a long time, to have sexual relations,” prosecutors say. Investigators say the director allegedly forced a foreign woman to have sex for two days and then abandoned her at Papola Casale airport near Brindisi despite her “precarious” physical and psychological conditions. The woman was assisted by airport staff and customs police, who accompanied her to file the complaint, and later took her to the Brindisi hospital where the protocol for victims of sexual violence was activated.
