Mayors, without the power to suspend activities due to COVID: Sheinbaum

The head of government, Claudia Sheinbaum, ruled out that in Mexico City additional measures are applied due to the increase in COVID-19 cases in the country.
When questioned about the suspension of some activities in the Cuauhtémoc mayor’s office, the president said that, in the city, these decisions are taken by the health authority, which in coordination with the Ministry of Health and the capital government make up a committee.
At a press conference, he indicated that the Health Committee has not established any additional measures for the uptick in cases, although he asked the population to continue taking care of themselves.

“The health authorities are in power to do so, the mayor’s offices are not health authorities,” he said.
He recalled that registration is already open to register children over 5 years of age to receive the COVID-19 vaccine and that, in the coming days, it will be reported when the application of the dose will begin.
